Some of my friends feel starting a website, usually a blog, would be a fun thing to do. They end up with asking me questions about how to do it. I give them tips about blogger and wordpress.com which after all is a good alternative for the unexperienced beginner. After a while when they’ve set up their website and written their first post they come to me again and ask me “how do I get visitors?”. Then I say “well, tell your friends about it”. After all, it’s a personal blog. But my friend goes on about how few friends he has and that he want thousands of visitors.
I don’t know if you’ve read my post on how to get visitors to your website. It’s on how you promote your website with out losing money. Before you can market you website though, you need to have something to show. Something your users can read. If you start getting visitors before you’ve got something to show the visitors will just leave and avoid your site in the future. It doesn’t matter how well designed it is, no content means no visitors.
First make your content and then market. I promise you’ll win on that in the long run.
