I believe CSS is the best thing about webdesign. An easy and fastloading way to make beutiful layouts and websites. CSS 3 is under development but already has some support in browsers. I predict it’ll take time before webdesigner can take advantage of CSS 3 due to lack of browser support but it’s fun playing with.
Some upcoming goodies
Wc3 seams to have decided that borders needs to be better and I can’t agree more with them. In Mozilla and safari borders can be rounded without use of images and also in Mozilla easily faded from one color to another. I hope IE will implement this feature later on as well. Borders can now also be images. You just type in something like border-top-image or border-top-left-image and the url to the image. So much easier than mixing with backgrounds in div tags all the time. A new border feature will also be shadows. Shadows can be assigned to text to thanks to the new text-shadow.
Backgrounds can be more customized with the new background-origin and background-clip. They enable you to precise how the position of the background is calculated. New features also include customizing the size of the background and have multiple backgrounds.
In CSS 3 colors will be more easily assigned with help of for example a hue, saturation, lightness system. New is also opacity. Something that already has been implemented in several browsers.
These are some of the new features I consider to be the best in CSS 3.
Still to come in CSS 4
What I’m waiting for the most is a way of rotating text and images using CSS. Now you must have images to show rotated text and that makes dynamic updating of the text hard or even impossible.
Another thing I think should be added is the ability to have multiple borders.
If it’s possible I’d like to see that the browsers render CSS 4 exactly the same. The sane me understands that it’ll never happen.
Do you have a wish list for CSS 4 . Write a comment and tell!
