…and ti will be a hundred by the end of the year. That is what DIRECTV promises. They just added 21 channels in HD format to their lineup and will be extending it even more. A few of the channels they’ll provide you with are CNN HD, A&E HD, The History Channel HD, premiums like HBO HD, Showtime HD, Cinemax HD, Starz H.
When they have achieved providing 70 channels, no other TV provider will have as many. With these new channels I will definitely go and get a HD-TV.
My favorite channel “Discovery” will be one of the new channels added. It’ll be really nice to watch Mythbusters and Braniac blow things up in high resolution.
So now, with the HD channels here, what is holding us from switching TV. Well, I guess the flat HD TV:s in general have lesser quality when it comes to the image compared with the so called “fat TV” despite that they have a huge resolution. But in very little time that will change.
Check out the new channels and those to come here.
EDIT: I apologize for my grammar errors in this article, if you could call it an article. I didn’t take the time to read it through and ask myself if this actually made any sense. As pointed out by some people who have commented I do have Enlish as my second language. However, that should not be any excuse since I know I can do better. In some cases, even a 12 year old can do better.
I hope I didn’t cause you any pain. I know hat it can be like, I do the same when somebody speaks or writes bad Swedish.
Well, the main “idea” pf this post wasn’t to promote my skills in English but provide you with the news of some brand new HD channels.
By the way. If you click on the link in the bottom of the original post you can see the channels I’m talking about there.

They have had Discovery HD since they launched their HD lineup. The problem is that I have the DirecTIVO HD which apparently can’t handle the new channels. I refuse to use their crappy DirecTV HD DVR. They need to get back in bed with Tivo and offer some decent hardware…

I don’t think mythbusters is filmed in HD - nor is man vs wild. Disc. HD theater has a lot of its own programming that is pretty good tho

Dish already has Discovery HD and has always had the Discovery HD theater. I have been enjoying Mythbusters for some time.

Discovery HD Theater is NOT the same as the Discovery Channel. The shows are totally different. Is there an actual “Discovery Channel” in HD as well.

how in the fuck did your shitty blog end up on digg is even more amazing…

I believe what they have had is Discovery Theater HD. Not the discovery channel, at least for free.
Does anyone know if the HD package is expanding, or just the list of channels you can purchase in addition to the HD package?

Actually, they’ve had Discover HD Theater since their HD lineup launched. They are adding Discovery Channel HD, which is the main Discovery channel, to their lineup.

You ever actually watched TV since 1985? Somehow this made it to Digg which is astounding. If your going to offer some sort of an informative blog, at least provide facts rather then dumb thoughts.

Can’t remember the channel number, but I was able to watch Discovery HD on one of the 4 digit “test” channels on my DirecTV dvr last nite.

I’m a tivo fan that has recently moved over to the DirecTV HR20 HD DVR. It’s not as elegant as a Tivo, but it’s not bad. Much better than Dish DVR or anything I’ve seen from a cable company.

@Damon
Discovery HD is a NEW channel. Discovery HD Theater is what you’re thinking of. The new channel is an HD simulcast of the Discovery Channel where DHDT is more like a “best of ” channel. Two very different beasts.

I have Time Warner Cable and I get Discovery HD. It has totally different programming on it than the normal Discovery channel. No Mythbusters, Survivorman or How its Made.
Disc HD really pimps its Club 1080 shows.

In fact, I don’t think Mythbusters is shot in HD, is it? I can’t remember, but the aspect ratio on that show is 4:3, not 16:9.

OMG discovery in HD is amazing! 70 channels wow… I guess Direct TV has a leg up one everyone else…

I have the DirecTV HD DVR and it’s awesome. I only miss a couple of things that the DirecTIVO box has. A lot of the features of the DirecTV DVR service are actually nicer than they way TIVO does them.

It’s still pretty expensive, I wonder how exactly the broadcast hd through the same medium that was supposedly only able to transmit the lower quality TV channels we see now.

Anyone complaining about your writing style should pull the stick out of their !@%. It’s a blog, not your English homework.

I have the same issue’s. I have LG recievers that support HD but not DTV’s new HD format.
I do not want their equipment as I know the PVR they have is inferior to Replay or Tivo. I have been a DTV customer since it’s inception and the other issue is compression… they use the lowest data rate they can get away with. What good is resolution when you get high def blocks and pixelation. At night when the sat is on the dark side of the planet the compression is worse. baaa everyone is a crook these days.

To those complaining about the writing… If you took a moment to click on the “about” link you would know that this writer is a 16-year old living in Sweden. Both facts would lead one to not be so critical of his english.

Blog or not, this is pretty bad. My comments:
- “70 HD channels launched till October” implies that those 70 channels will no longer be available after October.
- Just because a channel is broadcast in HD does not mean all programming will be in HD.
- CRTs, DLPs, LCD TVs, and Plasma TVs are ALL available in 1920×1080p resolution, and there is no longer a discernable quality difference between CRTs or DLPs and so-called “flat TVs”. The only remaining considerations and cost, longevity, size, and weight.
I’m not at all surprised that low-quality blog posts exist. What shocks me is that someone Dugg this article.

Wow, what assholes! It is obvious that English is a second language for the writer. Let’s see if you can write your lame comments in Swedish.

ahhh…HD HBO and Discovery have been available FOREVER and I woudl like to see your 50″ FAT TV that looks better than my Pioneer plasma…not happening.
Like mentioned above, to get the new channels (surprise!) they want you to get ANOTHER new dish and receiver. I just got over the pain of buying my HD TIVO. Yikes.

26 DirecTV // Oct 11, 2007 at 5:19 am
